A "Wipeout" contestant is dead after being hospitalized following a go at the obstacle course.

The reboot, which follows the three rounds and a three-stage, obstacle course "consisting of multiple strategy and decision points created to further challenge and wear out the stamina" of participants, was picked up by TBS earlier this year, and is scheduled to air sometime in 2021.

Following the incident on Wednesday, the contestant was attended to by on-site emergency medical personnel and later died, the sources said. The male contestant was later taken to the hospital where he died, according to TMZ. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. It goes into a planned Thanksgiving week break on Monday and will resume production afterward. Its contestants undergo a medical exam before competing. TBS said in a statement.

Although the man's name has not been released, his death has been confirmed by TBS and production company Endemol Shine North America, both of which released statements (via Variety) expressing sympathy in the wake of the tragedy.

The new series, co-hosted by wrestler-turned-actor John Cena, comedian Nicole Byer, and model Camille Kostek, is a reboot of the original Wipeout, which previously aired from 2008 to 2014.

The "Wipeout" revival had been announced to air on TBS, but no premiere date was ever announced.
