Etobicoke BBQ restaurant ignores lockdown order, opens doors for dine-in service”

Under Section 22 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, Adamson Barbecue was ordered by Toronto's Medical Officer of Health to shut down operations on Tuesday after both Toronto Public Health inspectors and Toronto Police arrived at the restaurant to conduct an investigation, according to a news release.

Word of the restaurant's initial reopening began circulating after Adamson Barbecue owner, Adam Skelly posted a video on Instagram, stating that though he has abided by lockdown rules before, this time around he would not be doing the same by opening dine-in services.

"Investigations require the gathering of all the facts before enforcement action can be taken", the City said in a release.

Despite Ontario regulations requiring all restaurants to be closed, except for takeout, delivery and drive-through, this establishment opened its doors to patrons for dine-in eating in contravention of the law that is created to protect people from the spread of COVID-19.

Toronto and Peel announced the 28-day lockdown on Monday, restaurants like Adamson Barbecue cannot serve diners indoors or outdoors and can only sell food though takeout.

Skelly said he would review the order and see what the implications are but told The Post Millennial that he will be reopening tomorrow.

Toronto Police and City Bylaw Enforcement Officials have shown up to Adamson Barbecue, which is letting people eat inside in direct contradiction to provincial rules.

Any individual who violates the province's emergency orders could face fines of $750 to $100,000.

He said everyone including those who don't agree with the current restrictions must follow them to ensure the public's safety. "There can't be rules for one group and not the other and I just wish that they'd just follow the rules".

"I think you are going to find there will be people there really quickly to enforce the law (if he does reopen)", Toronto Mayor John Tory told CP24 on Wednesday morning.

When Ford was asked why he has been so quick to condemn others who break the rules but not businesses, the premier said large private parties are "a different ball of wax". "And I would say that if he comes back a second day after being ordered the first day to close he is free to do that but so are the authorities free then to throw the book at him, which is exactly what they should do".

"I don't condone it".
