Yemeni Houthis say they fired missile at Saudi Aramco site in Jeddah”

The purported attack followed a meeting on Sunday between outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the Red Sea city of Neom.

"Right now we encourage the Houthis to expel the Iranians, to stop attacking neighbors and stop attacking people within Yemen and engage in a good-faith peace process with the other stakeholders in Yemen", he said. "As you know Aramco has been a target of such hostile attacks", said Abdullah al-Ghamdi, manager of the North Jeddah Bulk Plant.

Aramco has said its domestic fuel supplies were not affected by the attack on a petroleum products distribution plant in the north of Jeddah city, with operations resuming three hours after the incident.

Saudi Arabia addressed the UN Security Council in writing, insisting that Yemen's Houthi group was to blame for a missile attack on its petroleum products distribution plant in Jeddah on Monday, urging the worldwide body to "stop the threat" to global energy security, Yemen's political process, and regional security.

Aramco is still assessing the extent of the damage from Monday's strike, which tore a hole measuring roughly two square meters in a diesel storage tank containing about 480,000 barrels, the official said.

The official pointed out that the missile hit an oil storage tank from the top, causing "severe damage" to the tank ceiling and creating a gap about two metres wide.

A fire caused by the attack was extinguished in about 40 minutes with no casualties, he said.

"It was a big fire, a big explosion, but was dealt with swiftly", Ghamdi said.

Yemen has been mired in conflict since the Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015 to restore the Yemeni government ousted from power in the capital Sanaa by Houthi forces in late 2014. An official source at the Saudi energy ministry was later quoted by official media a saying a limited fire near a floating platform belonging to the Jazan oil products terminal had taken place but was contained with no damage.

Huthi missiles and drones have mostly targeted Saudi Arabia's southern provinces along their shared border, many of which the kingdom claims to have successfully intercepted. The Saudi-led coalition has responded with air raids on Houthi-held territory.
