'Final warning' for Pakistan cricketers in New Zealand

'Final warning' for Pakistan cricketers in New Zealand”

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said two of the six positives had been deemed "historical", with the remaining four said to be new. The team has also been stopped from training until further investigation.

"Please guys, I know it's hard, it's very tough, but do stay disciplined and follow through the protocols ... they will not compromise on health and safety in New Zealand, so please adhere to it", Khan told his players.

Six members of the Pakistan cricket squad have tested positive for COVID-19 in New Zealand and have been moved from managed isolation into quarantine. However, the statement did not name the players.

Pakistan are scheduled to play two Tests and three T20Is against their hosts. NZC said the infected players would be moved into the quarantine wing of the managed isolation facility where they were staying.

"As a outcome, the Pakistan team's exemption to train while in managed isolation has been put on hold until investigations have been completed", the statement added.

The chief executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board has warned players on tour in New Zealand to obey COVID-19 protocols or the whole team risks being sent home.

Bloomfield said CCTV showed members of the tour party breaching social distancing protocols.

"They have told me straightaway that one more breach and they will send the whole team back", Khan said in the two-minute message, recorded in the Urdu language, adding "it will be embarrassing" if this happens.

It is important to mention that the squad had tested negative four times before leaving Lahore.

The cricket body said it was also informed that "some members of the Pakistan team had contravened protocols on the first day of managed isolation", adding that it would hold discussions with them to "assist them in understanding the [isolation] requirements".

Pakistan's team management has been asked to keep the players to their rooms.

Even before Pakistan arrived on Kiwi soil the tour had been hit by ill health, with Pakistan's dashing opener Fakhar Zaman ruled out at the 11th hour with a persistent fever.

A jumbo 53-strong Pakistan squad, led by Babar Azam, arrived in New Zealand on Tuesday and is serving a mandatory 14-day quarantine period as per COVID-19 protocol.

The three-match T20I series between the two teams will begin in Auckland on December 18.
