Another Pakistani cricketer tests positive for covid-19”

One further member of the Pakistan cricket squad touring New Zealand has returned a positive COVID-19 test, New Zealand's Ministry of Health said on Wednesday, bringing the total tally of infections within the party to eight.

The team member is the only new new case of Covid-19 reported in managed isolation in New Zealand today.

On Tuesday, three cases of coronavirus were found in managed isolation.

The PCB said that out of the eight, two have been labelled "historic", making them "not infectious".

In the third round of Covid-19 tests conducted of Pakistani contingent in New Zealand, 42 had cleared their tests yesterday, while a trio's results were held back. The other two cases in the squad remain under investigation by the ministry.

There were no new community cases of the coronavirus.

"They are now observing the isolation period on the same floor as the other members of the squad who have tested negative", read the statement.

Pakistan's tour is set to begin with a T20I at Eden Park on December 18.

The team have not received permission to leave their hotel to train in light of the cases.

"The team is not allowed to train until the Canterbury DHB medical officer of health determines they are satisfied that any training activities are unlikely to transmit Covid-19", the statement added.

The ministry said all close contacts of the November quarantine cluster linked to a defence force quarantine worker had completed their testing and all returned negative results, and the cluster was expected to close 28 days from the date when the last case was recovered.

Earlier, six members of the team tested positive for COVID-19 upon their arrival in New Zealand - two of these were identified to be historical infections.

"Extensive investigations to determine an epidemiological connection between Case A and Case D have occurred".

The investigation included a review of CCTV footage, but was unable to to identify significant contact between cases A and D.
