How the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine works: Health Canada

How the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine works: Health Canada”

Almost one in four people may not get COVID-19 vaccines until at least 2022 because rich countries with less than 15% of the global population have reserved 51% of the doses of the most promising vaccines, researchers said on Tuesday.

"We continue to closely monitor the evolving situation", Alexandra Hilkene said in a statement, "and are committed to working with our partners to ensure there is capacity in hospitals across the province to provide care for any Ontarian requiring hospitalization".

WIth a first vaccine given emergency approval last week, and a second approval expected this week (for Moderna's vaccine), the new concern for health officials isn't when the USA will have a jab, but whether Americans will trust it enough to get it.

That gives the USA a narrow margin for error, considering that Dr Anthony Fauci has said that between 75 and 85 percent of Americans need to get vaccinated for the U.S.to reach herd immunity.

The first three million shots are rationed to the nation's front-line health workers and nursing home patients, with hundreds of millions more shots needed over the coming months to protect most Americans.

More than 300,700 people have died in the USA from the coronavirus since the pandemic began, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, and more than 16.5 million people have tested positive across the country.

Hospitals around the USA started dispensing coronavirus vaccine shots to their workers Tuesday in a rapid expansion of the country's distribution of the treatment.

The White House has predicted that a coronavirus vaccine will be distributed to 20 million people by the end of December.

Canada, which received an initial shipment of 30,000 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, expects a total of 249,000 doses by the end of the year.

An allergic reaction is possible, Health Canada warned, and advised people with allergies to the ingredients in the vaccine should not get it.

The over-80s have been invited for vaccination first, along with some health and care staff.

Republicans were more likely to say they will never get a vaccine (26 percent) and only 39 percent of respondents said they think their states should mandate vaccination.
