India cricketers isolated after apparent quarantine breach”

Vice-captain Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Navdeep Saini and Prithvi Shaw were filmed by a supporter seated indoors at Secret Kitchen, a restaurant at Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne.

Both Cricket Australia (CA) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have launched an investigation to determine whether there have been a potential breach of biosecurity protocols. BCCI and Cricket Australia raised their eyebrows after this statement. The four-match Test series is now level at 1-1. The user said he was not hungry but ordered just so he could watch them. "It would be naive to imagine that the players would have acted in such an unprofessional manner", the source maintained.

New South Wales on Saturday made masks compulsory and imposed new restrictions as its coronavirus cluster expanded by seven but the test match was permitted to go ahead with attendance at 50% capacity.

The four-test series between Australia and India is being played amid a backdrop of biosecurity rules, which will get stricter when the squads travel to Sydney on Monday. Now these five players of team India are being isolated. However, as per a report in Cricbuzz, India have expressed their unwillingness to travel to Brisbane for the fourth Test if they are confined to their hotel rooms when they are not playing or training. In a media release, CA have revealed that the involved personnel have been put under precautionary isolation, with the matter being investigated.

"That bubble is to protect the players and community ... if those breaches have impacted the conditions that the Queensland Government have applied for the Indian cricket team or both cricket teams, that's something for the Queensland Government to make a decision about that".

The protocols have helped Cricket Australia, which requires exemptions from Queensland's government for players to travel from Sydney to Brisbane for the fourth test beginning January 15, navigate the country's latest COVID-19 outbreak.

One of the options out there for India is to play back-to-back Tests in Sydney where the third Test begins on Thursday, with the touring party unhappy about undergoing another strict quarantine in Brisbane after the one that lasted 14 days upon their arrival in Australia.

The board had fined Big Bash League side Brisbane Heat after their players Chris Lynn and Dan Lawrence breached biosecurity measures earlier this season.
