Federal Bureau of Investigation bulletin warns of armed protest at Utah State Capitol, other statehouses

Federal Bureau of Investigation bulletin warns of armed protest at Utah State Capitol, other statehouses”

The FBI on Monday warned law enforcement agencies across the United States that armed protests by Boogaloo Boys and other far-right groups are possible at state Capitols throughout the nation starting later this week, and that an unnamed militant group is planning a "huge uprising" if President Donald Trump is removed from office for inciting last week's deadly mob invasion of the U.S. Capitol.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. said she believes that a second impeachment of President Donald Trump should be scheduled and in a separate interview on ABC's "This Week", Illinois Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger called for the president to resign or be removed by the 25th Amendment. Trump, who has sought unsuccessfully to overturn the November 3 election results with false claims of widespread fraud, said last week he would not attend the ceremony, a decision the president-elect supported.

On Monday, the National Park Service banned tours of the Washington Monument, citing "credible threats".

Reports of the Federal Bureau of Investigation bulletin came as Democrats in the US House of Representatives introduced a single article of impeachment against Trump for incitement of insurrection in the wake of the deadly Capitol siege that claimed the lives of at least five individuals, including Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick.

In a letter to acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf made public on Sunday, Bowser called for a fresh approach to security after what she called last week's "unprecedented terrorist attack".

Security for the U.S. Capitol and the inauguration have increased considerably since last week's incident on Capitol Hill.

The assault on the Capitol, challenging the certification of Biden's election victory, sent lawmakers into hiding and left five people dead, including a Capitol Police officer.

"Now that it happened people will take it much more seriously", the official said, referring to last week's violence.

The presidential inaugural committee and Bowser have told Americans not to travel to the inauguration, and said Washington's National Mall would be covered with 191,500 flags of different sizes, to represent the missing crowds.

Trump, who has without evidence challenged the validity of Biden's election win, initially praised his supporters but later condemned the violence.
