Imola returns to calendar as F1 officially postpones Australia until November

Imola returns to calendar as F1 officially postpones Australia until November”

Italian republications including La Repubblica, La Gazzetta dello Sport and Ansa news agency all claim that Imola's participation on the new 2021 calendar will be confirmed on Tuesday morning.

Formula One One bosses have unveiled a revamped calendar following the postponements of the Australian and Chinese Grands Prix.

The record, 23-race season will now begin in Bahrain on March 28, a week later than the originally scheduled start in Melbourne.

"The season will start a week later than planned and end a week later with our season finale in Abu Dhabi".

"The TBC race in the calendar will be announced in due course and will take place on the new date of 2nd May".

"The Australian Grand Prix is one of the great events in the world and we'll make sure it can be run safely and successfully in November, " he said.

The race, held in Melbourne's Albert Park Circuit, will be contested on November 21, subject to World Motor Sport Council approval.

"We are very excited to announce that Imola will return for the 2021 season and know our fans will be looking forward to the return of Formula 1 after the winter break and our revised season opener in Bahrain". Like Melbourne, the championship hopes to re-arrange the Shanghai race for later in the season.

The Chinese GP has also been provisionally been put on hold, which means a return to the schedule for Imola after it made a comeback in a heavily-revised calendar previous year.

The change in timeslot means it will be the 21st of the season's 23 races.

The Catalan government gave the green light last month for the circuit to conclude negotiations with Formula 1 and on Monday the 2021 event was signed-off, with the race weekend scheduled to take place from May 7th to May 9th.

"Obviously, the virus situation remains fluid, but we have the experience from last season with all our partners and promoters to adapt accordingly and safely in 2021", Domenicali said.
