Amazon Prime Video launches mobile-only plan in India, partners with Airtel”

Amazon and Airtel say that once the 30-day free trial is over, Airtel prepaid users can choose from a variety of prepaid plans and bundles to subscribe to the Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition plan. The Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition plan will compete directly against rival streaming service Netflix's Mobile streaming plan that is priced at Rs 199 per month, though they are not partnering with any mobile service provider at this time. Prime Video Mobile Edition is a single-user mobile-only plan, providing SD (standard definition) quality streaming to customers which is created especially for a mobile-first country like India, Gandhi said.

Lastly, the Rs. 349 plan includes full Amazon Prime Video access (with multi-user access, faster Amazon India deliveries, ad-free Amazon Music, Prime Reading, other Prime benefits), 2GB of data (per day), and unlimited calls for 28 days. Amazon did not explicitly say when or if it plans to extend Prime Video Mobile Edition outside of India.

Amazon already offers 1 year of free Prime membership with Airtel's postpaid plans. Called the Prime Video Mobile Edition, the plan is a single-user plan that offers SD quality streaming.

The Amazon prime new plans start at only Rs. 89 and goes up to Rs. 349. "With the launch of Prime Video Mobile Edition, we look forward to entertaining every Indian with our Exclusive and Original content", said Jay Marine, Vice President, Amazon Prime Video Worldwide. It will offer access to Prime Video content on smartphones at a cheaper price. Following this. they can choose from the aforementioned plans as per their choice. You need to recharge your (or a friend's) Airtel mobile number for at least Rs. 89 to get the Mobile Edition perk. Interested Airtel users can buy these plans via Airtel Thanks app or offline Airtel stores. Given high mobile broadband penetration in the country, the mobile phone has become one of the most widely used streaming devices.

According to an MPA report, Netflix commands 14% of India's total online video revenue market while Amazon takes up 7%.

Maybe, Netflix can buckle up further and introduce more competitive plans in the future!
