Cadillac of the sky: GM reveals flying autonomous vehicle that hits 56mph

Cadillac of the sky: GM reveals flying autonomous vehicle that hits 56mph”

According to a Reuters report, the new flying Cadillac is autonomous and can even land and take off vertically. The company unveiled the new concept vehicle in a video as a part of its virtual keynote presentation, which had Chief Executive Mary Barra reveal the futuristic flying auto along with a family friendly Cadillac electric shuttle. The carmaker's CES 2021 virtual presentation included the Halo Portfolio of concept vehicles and, among them, an eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft) that aims to redefine personal mobility by pairing it with isolated luxury.

The firm says it boasts four rotors powered by a single 90-kWh electric motor that produces speeds up to 56 miles per hour. The vehicles are completely autonomous and will meet and drop passengers to the landing port closest to their destination.

This is GM's first foray into aerial mobility and, while it will most likely never go beyond the concept stage, it does preview a future possible direction of development.

This would bypass traffic, crowds and other obstacles that stand in the way of commuters traveling from A to B. "It is a concept designed for the moment when time is of essence and convenience is everything".

Some of the AV's features include a vertical light signature and an expansive glass roof.

A senior GM executive described the concept as "reimagining the future of personal transportation". GM said a single-passenger flying Cadillac could become reality over the next few years.
