Canada Secures 20-Million More Doses of Pfizer Vaccine

Canada Secures 20-Million More Doses of Pfizer Vaccine”

He said he supported immediately releasing vaccines that health authorities were holding back out of caution, to guarantee they would be available for people needing their second dose. "We've had so much success with quality and predictable manufacturing and nearly flawless distribution of the vaccine, but we have seen now that the administration in the states has been too narrowly focused", he said on "Good Morning America". "So everything is now available to our states and our health care providers".

Each state has its own plan for who should be vaccinated, based on recommendations from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than 376,000 people have died, according to the Johns Hopkins database.

"If you are not using vaccines that you have the right to, then we should be rebalancing to states that are using that vaccine", Azar said at news conference.

The administration is also urging states to expand vaccination to more venues, such as convention center "mega-sites", pharmacies and community health centers.

On Monday, the federal government published a delivery schedule outlining the amount of vaccines being distributed to provinces each week between now and the end of February so that each region can plan accordingly and schedule an appropriate number of vaccination appointments for prioritized groups like front-line health workers and seniors in long-term care comes. "We want to bring an affordable vaccine to the public, with the goal of providing 1 billion doses in 2021 and more after that".

"States have had issues all along, with not knowing how much [vaccine] they're going to get", Hannan said.

"We're in a race against this virus and quite frankly, we're behind", U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams told "Fox & Friends".

The danger, she added, is making people who are willing to get vaccinated so frustrated they give up.

Azar said the pace of vaccinations has picked up, on track to reach 1 million daily within a couple of weeks. "We're now making the full reserve of doses we have available for order, [and] we are 100% committed to ensuring a second dose is available for every American who receives the first dose".

Both vaccines - which require two shots per person - have begun to be administered to Canadians as the first two deemed safe by Health Canada, though safety and efficacy reviews are underway for two additional vaccine candidates.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved the vaccine on 6 January, cementing the Moderna jab as the second against Covid-19 to receive authorisation in the EU following the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

This new, gene-based technology has proven effective in the development of the coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech in addition to the one created by Moderna.
