Gavin Strachan insists Celtic don’t regret much-criticised Dubai trip”

The United Arab Emirates has now been removed from Scotland's safe travel list due to the rising number of Covid cases connected to travel from there.

It was hit with plenty of criticism but that intensified tenfold when Christopher Jullien tested positive for Covid-19.

A depleted Celtic side were held to a 1-1 draw with Hibernian on Monday after 13 players were forced to self-isolate following the Dubai trip.

The rest of the Celtic squad have tested negative, but were in close contact with Jullien during flight and team coach travel. As many as 13 players and staff are now isolation after coming into contact with Christopher Julian, who has tested positive for the virus.

Kennedy and manager Lennon are among those now isolating, meaning they will not be on the touchline for tonight's clash with Hibs, which has been given the go ahead.

On Saturday, Celtic assistant manager John Kennedy admitted the club had been guilty of "minor slip-ups" in Covid-19 protocols during their six days in Dubai.

The Hoops are now 22 points behind Rangers, who have four games in hand on their rivals but face an uphill battle to complete Ten in a Row.

"I know that what I'm about to say won't please everyone, nothing I can say about football ever pleases everyone, but as I have said before, I do have doubts based on how the club itself described it, doubts about whether Celtic's trip to Dubai was really essential", she said. 'We wish Christopher a speedy recovery.

"The Club would like to thank the Scottish FA, JRG and the Scottish Government for their assistance in managing this case".

Celtic stress that injured defender Jullien was the only positive case, saying they are "hugely disappointed" by the decision.

Celtic's decision to travel to Dubai stinks of unaware privilege.

McLean - who has been linked with Rangers in recent months following Norwich's relegation to the Championship - responded to McGinn's Instagram by poking fun at Celtic, claiming it was two points dropped for Hibs on Monday evening.

'There's regret that one person has caught the virus but there's not a regret in terms of the permission we got to go and the protocols that we followed, which we have done the whole season.

The statement concluded: "Whilst we were in Dubai, the announcements made on January 4 significantly changed the Covid landscape".
