More than 370,000 get second vaccine dose, according to NHS data”

NHS staff and volunteers have began administering covid-19 vaccines at the Centre for Life in Newcastle, as part of the latest stage in the government's vaccination programme.

Britain is facing the worst weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, its chief medical officer said on Monday, with the health service entering a "dangerous time" as deaths and cases hit record highs while a mass vaccination programme picks up steam.

The number of patients with Covid-19 in hospital has reached a record high in England, while the official Government coronavirus death toll for the United Kingdom passed 81,000 at the weekend and lab-confirmed cases hit more than three million.

More than 370,000 people in England have received two doses of a Covid vaccine, according to NHS data, despite ministers and scientists previously saying that first doses were going to be prioritised.

The pop-up hub is the next step in the drive for mass COVID immunisation, created to add to the region's existing vaccination capacity, with further centres opening in the coming weeks. Most of those in line to be vaccinated at the site on Monday, work in health and social care.

Over 2 million people in the United Kingdom have now been vaccinated with the Pfizer/BioNTech and Oxford University/AstraZeneca vaccines since the vaccination programme began.

"Anybody who is not shocked by the number of people in hospital has not understood this at all".

Whilst the opening of mass-vaccination centres is seen as a positive step, there is confusion as to where people should go for their vaccine.

The UK has led the world in procuring, authorising and deploying vaccines and I am confident that, working closely with manufacturers, we are ready and able to meet the government's target for vaccinations.

Hundreds more GP-led and hospital services are also due to open this week along with the first pharmacy-led pilot sites, taking the total to around 1,200.

Some GP surgeries and care homes are already offering the jabs.

"Over recent weeks the Club has worked closely with Campus partners to ensure the NHS has the support it needs to successfully deliver its vaccination programme and we remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting Manchester with its long term recovery, as we have sought to do from the earliest days of the pandemic".

Who can get the vaccine?

But with all centres, people will need to wait until they receive an invitation.

There are no walk-in sessions.

Tens of millions of people will be immunised by the spring at over 2,700 vaccination sites across the United Kingdom, the government has announced today as part of comprehensive plans to rapidly scale up the COVID-19 vaccination programme.

It is now advising that you should use the tool if you have already received a letter inviting you to book your vaccination appointments.

"We will very quickly move onto those other critical workers in the economy and, of course, those who are doing an incredible job, like our policemen and women in protecting us and enforcing the rules at the moment, will also be in that highest category of phase two".
