Ontario to announce new COVID restrictions; curfew not expected”

In addition, Ford announced a "stay-at-home order" effective at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, January 14th.

During the press conference Ford said that anyone who does not to abide by orders will be subject to set fines and/or prosecution.

There will be reduced hours for non-grocery stores and pharmacies.

Enhanced enforcement will be implemented with the stay at home order and for those not following the new and existing measures.

The data also shows a quarter of the province's hospitals now have no intensive care unit beds free and another quarter have only one or two beds free.

"We need people to only go out only for essential trips to pick up groceries or go to medical appointments", he said.

As of Thursday, all Ontarians must stay at home.

Under the state of emergency declaration, law enforcement and bylaw officers will have the power to disperse gatherings and issue tickets to those not following the measures.

It automatically terminates 14 days after being made unless terminated earlier or extended by the government.

The Premier can also call on the government to immediately deploy staff in the healthcare system if and when needed.

To reign in the spread of the virus via community contacts, outdoor gatherings are being restricted to no more than five persons. According to the province, this is consistent with the rules during the lockdown during the first wave of COVID-19 in Spring 2020 and will allow individuals and families to enjoy time outdoors safely.

Masks remain mandatory indoors at open businesses or organizations.

Wearing a mask is also now recommended outdoors when physical distancing is hard.

Non-essential stores however, such as hardware or offering curbside pickup and delivery must operate in hours of 7 a.m.to 8 p.m.

S. land border will remain closed to non-essential travel until at least February 21 - another 30-day extension to the restrictions in place since mid-March.

No return to in-class learning until February 11 at the earliest for the following public health units: Windsor-Essex, Peel Region, Toronto, York Region and Hamilton. Childcare for children who are too young for school will remain open, along with emergency childcare for some school-age children.

"Now more than ever, we need, I need you to do your part", Ford said during a media briefing on Tuesday.

"Walk around the block".

He also says that between now and sometime between April and June, Canada will have enough doses to vaccinate up to 20 million people against the deadly coronavirus. Everyone must stay home to save lives.

"We have looked, certainly, at the measures put in place in other jurisdictions, other countries, and curfews have been put in place with multiple other measures", Yaffe said.

She says the federal government is driving hard in its negotiations to ensure early deliveries. The province says 8,778 people have received both shots and have completed their vaccination. "They're having coffee, they're obviously not wearing a mask".

Among the projections that should the United Kingdom variant spread too much in the community, the rate at which our case counts double will drop from the current rate of 35 to 40 days to just 10, and that forecasts suggest there will be more deaths in long-term care in this current wave than the first.

The new modelling shows that Ontario's long-term care sector continues to be devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic and ICU occupancy is increasing with "real consequences for health". Protect our health care system.

Deaths continue to spike in long-term care with 198 residents and 2 staff dying of the virus since January 1.

On Tuesday, Ottawa Public Health reported 63 new cases, the lowest figure of daily cases so far this month.
