Ubisoft Massive to Make Open-World, Story-Driven Star Wars Game

Ubisoft Massive to Make Open-World, Story-Driven Star Wars Game”

Publisher Ubisoft and The Division series developer Massive Entertainment have entered into a partnership with Lucasfilm Games to develop an open-world Star Wars game, the companies announced.

This title, which is in early development, is set up at Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment studio in Malmö, Sweden, which has been responsible for turning out Tom Clancy's The Division 2, Far Cry 3, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, and the upcoming Avatar Project.

"The Star Wars galaxy is an awesome source of motivation for our teams to innovate and push the boundaries of our medium".

According to the report, EA will continue to make Star Wars games alongside Lucasfilm, but other developers will now be involved, throwing the doors open to a range of studios to make titles based on Lucasfilm properties.

Like the previous EA games, this new title is expected to "be part of the same Star Wars canon and continuity shared across all the movies and TV shows produced since the Disney acquisition". Then yesterday we learned that a brand new Indiana Jones game is now in the works over at Bethesda.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot did give a small tease to Wired, saying the game will be "an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that has been done before". Star Wars Battlefront wasn't quite up to snuff when it first debuted, but the franchise improved as updates made their way to Battlefront II, making it one of the better Star Wars games in recent memory. In the meantime, 2021 will bring the belated arrival of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, a platformer encompassing all nine episodes of the central story. And it's clear Star Wars Squadrons was mostly a miss since it got a steep discount around the holidays, even more than you'd expect for the season. Whether these announcements will be limited to Star Wars, or other Lucasfilm IP, remains to be seen. Reilly told starwars.com, "We're really proud of the games we have created with EA". We will continue working with them and our relationship has never been stronger. "While we may not have a lot of details to share at the moment, we've got a number of projects underway with the talented teams at EA".
