US Capitol cop Eugene Goodman being hailed a ‘hero’ (video, photos)”

"As Trump's fascist mob ransacked the US Capitol, this fearless USCP officer kept murderous rioters away from the Senate chamber and saved the lives of those inside", U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell tweeted. The mob's advance forced Goodman to retreat up the stairs, but the footage shows him shouting "second floor" into his radio, alerting his colleagues that the mob was getting closer to the Senate. He then slightly pushes the front rioter in a bid to provoke him to follow, and drives the crowd to the right, away from the door.

Goodman's efforts gave the Senate time to lock down against the threat of rioters, according to The Washington Post and Bobic. A video of the Senate floor posted by the Capitol Hill reporter Jamie Dupree showed the senate was still full at 2:21 p.m. Neither did Capitol Police.

Media members, politicians and civic leaders are heaping effusive praise on Goodman for the selfless act that may have saved Congressional members' lives on the afternoon of January 6, 2021.

WUSA reported that Goodman is an Army veteran who spent time in Iraq. "His judgment & heroism may have saved our Republic. My fellow petitioners and I are calling on leaders in the House and Senate recognize his courage and his long career of defending the United States by awarding him the highest military honor, the Medal of Honor".

Almost 70 people were arrested during Wednesday's events, and the police and Federal Bureau of Investigation are asking the public for help in identifying other suspects. Steven resigned last week after the agency came under heavy scrutiny due to its inadequate and ill-prepared response to the pro-Trump rioters that staged an insurrection at the Capitol last week.

Five people, including a Capitol police officer, died during Wednesday's violent siege of the Capitol that was incited by Trump, and multiple people who breached the building have been charged.
