‘Apple Glass’ May Add This Extra Convenience Feature, Patent Reveals”

A new patent filed by Apple recently suggests what all features the Apple Glasses might have.

Initially applied for in 2018, "Authenticated Device Assisted User Authentication" is now a newly-granted patent that concerns authentication by proximity.

The patent - which was spotted by The Next Web - is for a light sensor on the back of its Apple Watch. This head-mounted device, presumably the Apple Glass, can then communicate with a nearby device and pass along this authentication.

Authenticated device assisted user authentication includes detecting, by an authenticated device, a proximate device, wherein a user of the authenticated device is now authenticated to access a restricted-access function of the authenticated device. "When multiple devices are used concurrently, procedures for unlocking each device individually can delay user access and reduce the quality of the user experience".

Apple's forthcoming "Apple Glass" headset may allow users to skip unlocking their iPhones, because they will already have been authenticated.

Extrapolating from the patent, it's easy to see how this unlocking would work in real-life with the Apple Glass. The method includes in response to the intent determination indicating an intent to access the restricted-access function of the proximate device, performing, by the authenticated device, authentication assistance for the user with respect to the proximate device. Noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also revealed that an Apple AR device will be launched in 2021. Just like the Watch, a person wearing an Apple Glass could unlock their iPhone, iPad, Mac, or other devices.
