Biden lays out plan to get America vaccinated”

President-elect Joe Biden speaks during an event at The Queen theater on January 15 in Wilmington, Delaware.

President-elect Joe Biden said Friday his administration would surge federal resources into community vaccination centers and mobile health clinics to accelerate the rollout of Covid-19 shots. Biden said his administration is going to use the full strength of the federal government to ramp up supply of the vaccines.

The all-out federal effort is a departure from the Trump administration's mostly hands-off approach, which has left it to states and localities to decide how to allocate and administer the vaccines, just as it shirked responsibility for testing Americans for the coronavirus.

Biden described the vaccine rollout in the United States under President Donald Trump as a "dismal failure thus far".

"This is a time to set big goals to pursue them with courage and conviction, because the health of the nation is literally at stake", Biden said. "The honest truth is this: things will get worse before they get better", he said.

More broadly, the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan calls for distributing 100 million vaccines in Biden's first 100 days in office, assistance for re-opening schools, $1,400 in payments to people who need it most, extending unemployment benefits beyond the end of March, and a $400 weekly supplement to help people make ends meet.

Biden's DE colleague, Democratic Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, tried distributing masks, but video captured Republicans refusing to take them. "Investments in the caregiving economy and in skills and training needed by our workers to compete and win the global economy of the future", Biden said. "A 100 million in 100 days needs to be seen as only a start".

He said he will order the Federal Emergency Management Agency to set up 100 vaccine centers within a month, which he said would ultimately serve millions of people.

The President-elect continued: "We'll fix the problem by encouraging states to allow more people to get vaccinated beyond health care workers and move through those groups as quickly as they think we can".

We also have to continue vaccinating frontline essential workers like educators, first responders, grocery store workers, et cetera. As Biden has pledged in the past, he will use the Defense Production Act to maximize the manufacturing of the vaccine and increase the supply. "It will also be a bridge to economic recovery for countless mom and pop landlords", he said, adding that his rescue plan will also help small businesses that are the engines of our economic growth and economy as a whole.

Biden will aim to release almost every available dose of the coronavirus vaccine when he takes office, CNN previously reported.

Another carryover from the Trump administration plan: Biden said he intends to mobilise local pharmacies to administer vaccines.

"Let me be clear, I'm convinced we can get it done". Create more places for them to get vaccinated.

His staff estimated that 90 per cent of Americans live within five miles of a pharmacy.

Biden is also moving more aggressively than the Trump administration to address a shortage of people available to administer the vaccine. The President-elect will also mobilize a public health jobs program to support the response to the pandemic.
