Ontario reports another triple-digit increase in COVID-19 cases in Ottawa

Across the province, the seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases was on the decline Saturday.

Public Health Ontario has reported 3,056 new cases of COVID-19 today, which is 58 more than the previous day.

The 51 new COVID-19-related deaths bring the total number of fatalities to 5,340.

A provincial stay-at-home order is also in effect.

Several other regions in Ontario reported COVID-19 cases numbers in the triple digits, including Waterloo (132), Niagara Region (147), Windsor-Essex (115).

There are 397 COVID patients in intensive care units (up from 387 yesterday) and 281 COVID patients on ventilators (one more than yesterday).

There were 14,460 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on January 15, down from 15,609 on January 14.

As of Friday, the province says it has administered 189,090 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Another 51 people have died across Ontario from the novel coronavirus, the province said.

Ontario has so far received 277,050 total doses of vaccine, 224,250 from Pfizer-BioNTech and 52,800 from Moderna. It still represents a decrease from the January 2021 high of 9.7 per cent recorded on Jan. 4.

Where were Ontario's new COVID-19 cases found?

Updated local figures from Ottawa Public Health are due at around 12:30 p.m. Figures from OPH and from the province often differ due to data reporting times, OPH has said. There are more than 1,100 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, with the majority of those in Simcoe County.

The current lockdown in eastern Ontario went into effect december 26, and is now scheduled to last until February 11.
