There are now 4,810 active cases of the coronavirus in B.C., including 360 people who are in hospital, 76 of whom are in intensive care.

There are now 7,132 people under active public health monitoring because of exposures to known cases of the coronavirus, and 75,914 people have received a COVID-19 vaccine.

Island Health sent out a reminder on Friday that Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has extended Orders on all gatherings and events to February 5, 2021, at midnight.

"People throughout British Columbia are finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel", the statement says.

"As of today, thousands of people working and living in long-term care homes, health-care workers and those in remote or at-risk Indigenous communities have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine".

Pfizer ran into production trouble while upgrading their facility, which the province admitted will create a short-term delay in the delivery of some vaccines.

They said the province is working with the federal government to determine how the delay may impact the rollout in B.C. Officials said they would provide more information in the coming days.

Of the 509 new cases, 260 were in the Fraser Health region, 101 in Vancouver Coastal, 13 on Vancouver Island and 49 in the Northern Health region.

"I'm fairly confident that if we were seeing a lot of spread from one of these new variants, we would have picked that up", Henry said.
