Indian doctor on scientific board — Sputnik V vaccine”

Russia's sovereign wealth fund RDIF has filed for registration of the Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine in the European Union and expects it to be reviewed in February, as Moscow seeks to speed up its availability worldwide.

Russian Federation has said it can inoculate 60 per cent of its population against COVID-19 this year and although the Sputnik V vaccine has been readily available in Moscow, the roll-out across the country has been slow.

According to the latest claim from Rospotrebnadzor, the consumer health watchdog of Russia, EpiVacCorona proved 100% effective in clinical trials.

However, "we do not need to have the vaccine registered in Brazil to export it to other countries that have approved it", he told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday.

Russian Federation began mass trials of EpiVacCorona, which is being developed by Siberia's Vector Institute, in November.

Vaccinating the Russian population is one of the key factors that will curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

Apart from Sputnik V and EpiVacCorona, there are several other COVID-19 vaccines being administered around the world.

Meanwhile, Deputy Secretary of Health, Hugo Lopez-Gatell highlighted that the Technical Committee on Vaccination in Mexico, made up of scientists with expertise in epidemiology, will analyze the new recommendations of the World Health Organization regarding the periodicity in the application of doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian the sovereign wealth fund responsible for marketing Sputnik V overseas, has previously said that combining the two vaccines would boost the efficacy of the AstraZeneca shot.

Vasanthapuram Ravi, Dean (Basic Sciences) at National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), is part of the team of leading scientists in virology, microbiology, genetics and biotechnology from countries including Argentina, Croatia, France, Germany, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the U.S., a note from RDIF, Russia's sovereign wealth fund, said. It must be stored at -70 degrees C in specialized units. It obtained authorization in December as well with a 94.5% efficacy. They will first receive the AstraZeneca vaccine and then the Sputnik V shot 29 days later. For full protection, a person must get two doses, the first of which provide 70% efficacy.
