Washington lawmakers from both sides of the aisle back impeachment of Trump

Washington lawmakers from both sides of the aisle back impeachment of Trump”

"That's not how this works", said Chris Krebs, when asked Sunday whether censorship by social media companies violated freedom of speech protections.

The President's belligerence over the election outcome came to a head last Wednesday when supporters stormed the US Capitol in a bid to stop the certification of the results.

Congress formally certified Democratic President-elect Joe Biden's November 3 election victory early on Thursday, hours after lawmakers were forced into hiding by hundreds of rioters who overwhelmed police and invaded the building.

Twitter's ban on Trump's account followed the increasing use of warning labels on his posts referring to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the result of the United States presidential election.

In announcing the suspension last week, Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg said Trump used the platform to incite violence and was concerned he would continue to do so.

"I think this is so ill-advised for Joe Biden to be coming in, trying to heal the country, try to be the president of all the people when we are so divided and fighting again".

The move comes as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have taken action to block or permanently ban President Donald Trump in the wake of a deadly insurrection Wednesday at the U.S. Capitol.

Last week, Trump was kicked off his favorite social media platform, along with numerous other websites that said it was too risky to give him a megaphone in the wake of his incitement of the Wednesday attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The Cabarrus County Republican Party says it has gone dark on social media as part of a protest against the "heavy-handed moderation practices" of Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Five people were killed in the melee, including a police officer.

"In the USA, it's about how are these companies being regulated, are they regulated, should they be regulated?"

But they are unlikely to muster the two-thirds majority needed to convict Trump in the 100-member Senate and remove him from office.

"At least through the transition we've been very clear", she added.

"This means that we aren't allowing any ads from politicians, including President Trump", it said.
