Arsenal deliver Mesut Ozil ‘privilege’ message as Fenerbahce move is sealed

Arsenal deliver Mesut Ozil ‘privilege’ message as Fenerbahce move is sealed”

The German playmaker is now in Istanbul arranging a free transfer to the Turkish giants after reaching an agreement with current club Arsenal to terminate his contract in north London.

Arsenal boss Arteta has lauded Ozil, however, and admitted it was a "privilege" to have coached and played alongside him. His creativity and vision led to many goals during his time in the Arsenal shirt.

"Mesut was at the heart of many great moments for this club over the years, including those three FA Cup final wins".

'These successes will always be part of our history.

Fenerbahce, one of Istanbul's three big clubs, are now third in the league behind Besiktas.

In a statement released on Arsenal's website, Ozil said: 'I'd like to thank the club for this awesome journey over the past seven and a half years.

"The support I have felt from the team and fans during my time here has been truly incredible and something I will always be grateful for".

Eddie Nketiah Starts - Arsenal Team vs Southampton Confirmed

The Gunners lost 1-0 to Southampton at Saint Marys, meaning they won't defend the trophy they won in Arteta's first season.

Arsenal face Southampton once again in the Premier League in three days' time.

With Arsenal having a middling campaign in the Premier League, Arteta will hope to attack the FA Cup again this season after winning it past year.

But he was marginalised under Wenger's replacement Unai Emery and by Arteta, who said the player's omission from the squad this season was for "football reasons".

After starting the first 10 games of Mikel Arteta's reign as boss in north London, Ozil's last appearance came in a win over West Ham last March before the coronavirus pandemic saw football grind to a halt a year ago.

Ozil has since donated a greater amount to helping London charities including social project "Ozil's Warmer Winters" which aimed to provide 50,000 healthy meals and 10,000 gift packages to people in need over Christmas.

A three-and-a-half-year contract had been agreed with the former Germany midfielder, it added.

The Mesut Ozil saga has finally ended, bringing to a close months of frustration for both the player and the club.
