Texas man arrested over US Capitol riot threatened to kill Ocasio-Cortez

Texas man arrested over US Capitol riot threatened to kill Ocasio-Cortez”

A Dallas man who brilliantly posted a Facebook selfie from the Capitol riot - fully five days after the fact and while bantering, "just wanted to incriminate myself a little lol" - has been arrested on a list of federal charges that somehow don't seem to include mention of "abject stupidity".

Miller also threatened a US Capitol police officer during an exchange on Instagram. "Dollar might collapse. civil war could start. not sure what to do in DC".

After Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, "Impeach", during the riot, Miller, who was at the Capitol, replied, "assassinate AOC". In a Facebook post of one of the photos, one user replied "bro you got in?!"

Prosecutors said Miller made numerous threatening remarks online, including one instance in which he commented "next time we bring the guns" on a Twitter video showing rioters exiting a Capitol building.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has said she thought she was going to die during the insurrection. We where [sic] unarmed. We where [sic] going in.

The criminal complaint references the last line as a "directive" to assassinate a House member.

This article has been updated to clarify details about Miller's alleged social media posts.

The complaint alleges Miller violated 40 counts of 40 USC 5104 (e)(2)(G) which makes it a crime to "willfully and knowingly" parade, demonstrate or picket in any of the Capitol Buildings.

After posting a photo on Facebook showing him inside the Capitol, Miller responded to a comment on the picture with: "just want to incriminate myself a little lol", according to an Federal Bureau of Investigation affidavit.

"A spokeswoman for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez did not immediately respond to a message on Saturday night", the Times reported.

"His social media comments reflect very ill-considered political hyperbole in very divided times and will certainly not be repeated in the future", attorney Clint Broden said in the statement.

"Mr. Miller takes responsibility for his actions taken on January 6 on behalf of his support for former President Trump and wants to move forward and put this behind him. Given the political divide these days, there is a lot of hyperbole", the attorney stated. A detention hearing is scheduled for January 25.
