United Kingdom police break up Covid rule-breaching wedding with 400 guests”

About 150 people packed into a London school for a wedding this week in defiance of a strict national lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to new reports.

However, officers found a large gathering in Stamford Hill, in north London, with the windows covered to stop people seeing inside.

Detective Chief Superintendent Marcus Barnett of the Met Police said: "This was a completely unacceptable breach of the law, which is very clearly in place to save lives and protect the NHS". We can all see that and we must act responsibly.

"People throughout the use of a are making sacrifices through cancelling or suspending weddings and different celebrations and there's no excuse for this kind of behavior".

The school's auto park is used as a drive-in Covid-19 test centre on Sundays for people who have a pre-booked appointment, while children could be seen going to class on Friday morning.

Prominent members of the Jewish community condemned the wedding, with Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis calling the event "a most shameful desecration of all that we hold dear".

Weddings are allowed only in "exceptional circumstances" - such as one partner being dangerously ill - and with a maximum of six people attending.

The venue was a school whose principal died from the coronavirus a year ago.

"My officials are running tirelessly with the network and we are able to now no longer hesitate to take enforcement motion if this is required to preserve humans safe".

"Unfortunately, similar events have taken place even at this venue before and we need to be really clear how unacceptable it is".

The school said its hall had been leased to an outside organisation and "we had no knowledge that the wedding was taking place".

Five attendees were fined 200 pounds - around $274. According to him, the school was not aware of the wedding being held on its premises, rented through a third party organization whose contract it terminated.

Police have given seven people who had gathered to watch television and eat together at a home in Romford, east London, last Sunday, penalties.

On Thursday, British interior minister Priti Patel said those who broke lockdown restrictions faced punishment by police and announced a new £800 fine for those who attended house parties.

"As this latest measure demonstrates, we will not stand by while a small number of individuals put others at risk".
