WhatsApp this week: More on the privacy row

WhatsApp this week: More on the privacy row”

Many bugs are also fixed.

One of these "newer" messaging apps is Telegram.

Together, WhatsApp's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service are over 8,000 words long and filled with legal jargon that makes it hard for non-lawyers to understand. "We don't share this data with Facebook for ads purposes", it said.

Understandably, one can't be too careful in protecting ones' data as leaving it vulnerable can bring severe consequences.

Be that as it may, the decision to espouse or reject a social media platform on any sort of ground should be done rationally not in the heat of panic or misinformation.

She engaged with WhatsApp to connect with clients in a way that was quick, easy, and safe, as she said people often give her confidential, sensitive, and personal information over the app.

Firstly, to establish, maintain and operate chat services is no piece of cake. The new update applicable for all WhatsApp platforms that include WhatsApp for Android, WhatsApp for iPhone, WhatsApp web and desktop app.

Secondly, the above is not necessarily a scary notion as the concept of profiling is not new.

Recently Facebook introduced new terms of service which would see more data being shared between Whats App and the main Facebook platform

The surge is attributed to Whatsapp's latest update that alerted users of the intention to share their data with Facebook. The announcement of the update, which was expected to take effect on February 8, 2021 but was pushed to March 15,2021, triggered a mass exodus from Whatsapp.

With the privacy drama still looming allover WhatsApp and Facebook, Signal is taking advantage of this as its active users keep growing. If the user chooses not to interact with a business account on WhatsApp, no data other than metadata will be shared with Facebook.

"We continue to shatter traffic records and add capacity as more and more people come to terms with how much they dislike Facebook's new terms", Signal said in a tweet. A messaging platform is only as good as the number of people you know who use it. WhatsApp has more than 2 billion users. Neither does it retain your location data or pass it to Facebook. "We may use the information we receive from them, and they may use the information we share with them, to help operate, provide, improve, understand, personalize, support, and market our services and their offerings".

WhatsApp-Bill has a feature for users to put status on photos, videos, etc. The app is "built to make messaging work like we all assumed it did, just a direct connection between people without any third parties tracking or listening in". Perhaps, George Orwell's dystopian fiction " Ninteen Eight-Four" has impressed on some schools of thought the possibility of an all-seeing Big Brother surveilling the activities of people globally.

"We are excited about India, my parents are from Tamil Nadu so it's exciting personally as well; Signal doesn't collect any data so we can't sell what we don't have", Acton added.

Which options should I go for?

Users registered in the beta program can already use them, while others will have to wait until they are available worldwide.
