Coronavirus: India reports 14,256 new cases, over 3 lakh vaccinated on Friday”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed flu vaccination should continue to be offered as long as influenza viruses continue circulating locally and unexpired vaccines are available.

With early data proving the vaccine to be over 94.5% accurate, Moderna has quickly joined Pfizer among the front runners in the global race to contain COVID-19.

The US Food and Drug Administration issued an Emergency Use Authorization for Moderna Covid-19 vaccine on December 18, 2020, administered as 2 doses, 1 month apart to prevent Covid-19, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Based on the numbers, 2.5 cases of anaphylactic shock were recorded for every million of Moderna injections, when compared to 11.1 cases per one million Pfizer vaccinations.

During the last 24 hours, 14,256 fresh positive cases were reported in the country.

As of January 10, a reported 40,41,396 first doses of Moderna Covid-19 vaccine had been administered in the U.S., and reports of 1,266 adverse events after receipt of Moderna Covid-19 vaccine were submitted to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, according to the CDC.

CDC Introduces More Lenient Vaccine Guidelines, Permits Mixing Pfizer and Moderna Shots

"The clinical and epidemiologic characteristics of anaphylaxis case reports after receipt of Moderna Covid-19 vaccine are similar to those reported after receipt of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine", the report said.

Vaccination sites must be equipped and able to treat severe allergic reaction, and able to transport patients to the hospital if necessary, the CDC said.

"We will provide the vaccine to Covax for these countries at a not-for-profit basis".

It is not too late to receive the flu vaccine.

India is in the grip of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and globally it is the second worst-hit country due to COVID-19.

Gavi chief executive Seth Berkley said almost 150 million doses of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine were ready to ship through Covax, pending emergency use approval from the World Health Organization, which is on course to happen in mid-February. All 200 million doses are expected to be delivered by July 31, 2021, allowing for 100 million people to be vaccinated.
