NBCUniversal to shut down its sports cable network by year's end”

The move to USA Network will grow viewership by about 6 million homes, for a total of approximately 86 million homes versus NBC Sports Network's 80 million homes.

According to reports by the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg, NBC Sports Group Chairman Pete Bevacqua told staffers in a memo that the NBC Sports Network cable channel is shutting down the end of this year.

It is fresh news a few hours ago, that the famous American network NBC Sports, has dropped the existing contracts with two famous American sports (and not only), namely the National Hockey League and NASCAR, both very popular in the U.S., with the Network that broadcasts NXT which would already be close to an agreement with the two sports worlds to be able to stage their shows. USA Network, which is available in 85.6 million homes, had already been airing early-round playoff games since 2012.

The company's decision about NBCSN and its programming "will make USA Network an extraordinarily powerful platform in the media marketplace, and gives our sports programming a significant audience boost", Bevacqua added.

News of NBCSN's shutdown comes at a time when NBC must renegotiate several of its major deals.

The show is aired on the USA Network, and officials were not happy with the all-time low ratings for one of RAW's episodes last month. Negotiations for the Premier League's broadcast rights from the 2022-2223 season are ongoing.

Premier League deals are typically for three years, but NBC got a six-year package in 2015 paying nearly $ 1 billion. "We remain committed to original entertainment programming, and believe that high-profile live sports will complement USA's broad premium scripted, unscripted and WWE slate", she said. "That's where the internal discussions are going to be and understanding the right balance to have between sports and entertainment". No less than 175 Premier League games are shown on Peacock this season.

The channel's most valued programming will move to USA Network and Peacock, NBC's new streaming service.
