SpaceX Just Launched 'Most Spacecraft Ever Deployed on a Single Mission'”

A Falcon 9 rocket carried the seventeenth batch of satellites at 6.32 pm IST ( 8.02 am EST) from Complex 39 at Kennedy Space Center, Florida and deployed the payload into their intended orbit one hour and four minutes after the launch, as per a UPI report. If a given customer found themselves unable to prepare their spacecraft in time for a given launch, SpaceX would simply move that customer (at little to no extra cost) to the next available launch, sidestepping at least part of the agonizing process of herding dozens upon dozens of different customers' spacecraft into the same rocket fairing.

Sunday's launch marked the third mission this year for SpaceX and the company's second within a week from Florida's Space Coast.

Saturday's launch would have been "the most spacecraft ever deployed on a single mission", the company said, surpassing the previous 104-satellites launched in 2017 by India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle.

That launch was also delayed because of unfavorable weather conditions.

Minutes after taking off, the Falcon 9's main booster that had thrust the rocket to the edge of space separated from the rest of the craft and dropped back down to Earth in a controlled fall.

SpaceX production supervisor Andy Tran said the mission will break the record for most satellites deployed from a single rocket.

SpaceX carried a total of 143 satellites for the launch, which provides a satellite record.

However, the usual practice is for the smaller satellites to fly along with a large primary payload.

For the SmallSat Rideshare Program, SpaceX is offering to launch missions made up entirely of small satellites.

Starlink is part of SpaceX's SmallSat Rideshare Program, which aims to provide reliable, affordable transport to orbit for small satellite operators.

The company sent yet another rocket racing off into orbit on Sunday morning after a planned Saturday launch was called off due to inclement weather.
