SpaceX is adding laser cross links to the Starlink polar satellites

SpaceX is adding laser cross links to the Starlink polar satellites”

In front of federal officials, the two wealthiest men in the world are sparring about the vast satellite internet ventures their businesses are creating.

"Today's Starlink comment does not serve the public in favor Amazon satellite system It is, in the best case scenario, after several years of start-up".

A spat erupted Tuesday between Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk as the tech titans' space firms exchanged barbs over their rival satellite internet projects being evaluated by regulators. Musk then responded by rejecting the declaration that shows that the change is harmful to the public.

The first Starlink satellites launched into polar orbit have been equipped with laser-crossed links, a technology the company plans to add to other satellites next year.

A veteran rocket from billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk's SpaceX aerospace company has successfully launched the Transporter-1 mission, breaking the record for the most number of satellites ever flown on a single rocket. In addition to the $499 upfront expense of Starlink, containing a consumer terminal and a Wi-Fi router to attach to the satellites, the initial plan is set at $99/month.

Project Kuiper aims to deliver satellite-based broadband services in the United States, and eventually around the world, and may offer connectivity for wireless carriers and 5G networks. Although Amazon passed a crucial early infrastructure milestone in December for the antennas it requires to link to the network, its satellites' development or launch has yet to begin.

Each constellation is expected to cost $10 billion or so to build.

For its part, SpaceX has positioned its proposed change to the Starlink system as one that is better for managing traffic and potential collisions in space, which the industry has widely recognized as a growing threat. "The Starlink satellites aboard this mission were the first in the constellation to deploy to a polar orbit".

A lower orbit allows for faster internet service because the signal does not travel far. "All satellites that will be launched next year will be equipped with laser links".

According to an Amazon statement posted by CNBC, the company designed its Kuiper System "to avoid interference with Starlink".

Amazon and SpaceX's dispute focuses on their differing orbital "shells", meaning layers of space at different distances from the Earth's surface where large numbers of satellites can orbit without crossing over.
