SOPHIE dead at 34

SOPHIE dead at 34”

"Tragically our handsome Sophie passed away this morning after a awful accident", the statement from United Kingdom music label Transgressive read.

Visionary Scottish artist and producer SOPHIE has passed away at the age of 34. At this time respect and privacy for the family is our priority.

She added: "We need to honour and respect her memory and legacy".

SOPHIE's influence on music over the last decade will be felt for decades to come, across dancefloors and in recording studios as producers create beats influenced by the pops, squeaks, glitches and ruptures that made up the glossy, hyper glistening sheen that defined the icon's work.

Sophie co-wrote Madonna's 2015 single Bitch I'm Madonna and worked with pop singer Charli XCX on hits such as After The Afterparty and the EP Vroom Vroom.

A visionary artist who altered the very fabric of pop and electronic music, SOPHIE's influence on electronic music culture can not be understated.

The albums was subsequently nominated for a Grammy for best dance/electronic album.

French singer and songwriter Christine and the Queens is among those to have paid tribute to Sophie, calling the artist "a stellar producer, a visionary, a reference". She went on to say, "It means you're not a mother or a father - you're an individual who's looking at the world and feeling the world". We would also ask for respect for her fanbase, and to treat the private nature of this news with sensitivity.

Rina Sawayama also tweeted out her condolences, proclaiming "the world and our community has lost a handsome soul".

The news was initially shared this morning (30th January) by Berlin label PAN who tweeted an image of SOPHIE with the words: "Rest in Power you incredible human".

"Such sad news to hear of Sophie passing", offered DJ and producer Erol Alkan.

Even with her success, SOPHIE preferred to remain anonymous.

"To be truly deserving of this award involved not only changing the sound of today's music, but also ripping apart a deeply entrenched and deeply flawed patriarchal society", she said while collecting her award.
