(MENAFN - NewsIn.Asia) January 31 - Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford says he was subjected to "humanity and social media at its worst" after receiving racist abuse on Saturday night.

I congratulate all those players, fans, clubs and organizations that continue to denounce and condemning this abuse in the strongest terms.

"We all have a responsibility to create an environment where such abuse is not tolerated, and those who choose to spread hate and division are held accountable for their actions", he tweeted.

Twitter also released a statement, saying: "Racist behaviour has no place on our service and when we identify accounts that violate any of the Twitter Rules, we take enforcement action".

The England striker became the latest footballer to be hounded by online racist trolls following the 0-0 draw with Arsenal.

Chelsea defender Reece James, West Brom's Romaine Sawyers and Manchester United duo Axel Tuanzebe and Anthony Martial were also all targeted last week.

Greater Manchester Police have opened an investigation after several Manchester United players were racially abused on social media in the past week.

Following the racial abuse being dished out at the Manchester United players, Greater Manchester Police has now made a decision to open an investigation into the matter.

"We want to see swifter removal of offensive messages and improved identification and banning of offenders".

"We've just got to help them and sometimes you help them by taking away the chance of expressing themselves, especially when they're anonymous".

"I'm a black man and I live every day proud that I am", he said on Twitterexternal-link. "Tackling online hate is a priority for football, and I believe social media companies need to do more", he said in a statement.

"These hateful words have no place anywhere in our society whether online or otherwise".

"I'm not sharing screenshots".

"A number of these comments have been reported to us and we are liaising with those involved to provide support and we will be investigating these crimes thoroughly".

"I have lovely children of all colours following me and they don't need to read it".

The Football Association has vowed to work with the government and social media platforms to eradicate racism from the game. "Attractive colors that should only be celebrated".

A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of racially abusing Sawyers. "We are in regular dialogue with social media companies, challenging them to do more against discriminatory abuse on their platforms".
