James Vince denied century by 'accidental' wide”

Sydney Sixers' batsman James Vince was left stranded on 98, following a controversial wide by Perth Scorchers' Andrew Tye in the Qualifier match of the ongoing edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) on Saturday.

"Perth Scorchers player Mitchell Marsh has been charged with a Level 2 offence under the Cricket Australia Code of Conduct following his side's KFC BBL Finals match against the Sydney Sixers on January 30", Cricket Australia said in a statement on Sunday.

Vince, dropped by Australia bowler Tye on 23, shared an opening stand of 92 in 8.1 overs with Josh Philippe, who made 45 off 25 balls.

With the stage set for a memorable finish, Tye's first ball was a half-tracker which sailed over Vince's head and was called a wide, giving Sydney the win.

Opinion was divided on Tye's delivery.

"Only he will know (if the wide was intentional from Tye)".

Later, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan also lashed out at Tye for bowling the wide.

Although furious when the incident happened, Vince was philosophical when asked about the delivery after the match.

"A hundred would have been nice but I'm just happy to be there at the end and be in the grand final".

"It nearly hit him on the toe, so it was pretty short", Vince mentioned in the wake of the Sixers' nine-wicket win. "No one can tell me that he didn't mean to do that ...!" The replay also showed that there wasn't any knick from the bat of Marsh and there was a large gap between bat and ball.

The Scorchers will now host The Challenger on Thursday night for a spot in Saturday's decider in Sydney. "Tonight's [Saturday's] result means the Perth Scorchers will host either Sydney Thunder or Brisbane Heat at Optus Stadium next Thursday, with the victor returning to Sydney to face the Sixers", he said.

Meanwhile, Marsh faces a nervous wait over his blow-up against the Sixers.
