Klopp coy after Liverpool agree deal for Preston centre-back Davies”

The Reds have been looking to bolster their defensive options and after snapping up Ben Davies from Preston North End have captured Kabak.

The champions swooped for two signings on transfer deadline day, completing deals for Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak but the business was conducted against a background of Matip being told he had suffered a similar fate to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. A player the champions had scouted for some time, Liverpool made their move after agreeing a loan with a view to buy for an initial £18million this summer.

Liverpool's resources in central defence are now stretched to the limit with Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez unlikely to play again this season due to serious knee injuries, while the injury-plagued Joel Matip was sidelined on Thursday by an ankle ligament problem which the club yet to diagnosis the extent of.

The Germany World Cup victor has managed just 43 minutes of Premier League football this season - with the improved form of Holding and the signings of Gabriel and Pablo Mari pushing Mustafi down the pecking order.

Klopp regrettably conceded that Matip's injury may have come as a outcome of his sacrifice for the team.

'We will wait for him.

"But he will be ready for the start of the next pre-season and finally everything will be sorted".

Other than Davies, Liverpool have been linked with a move for Arsenal central defender Shkodran Mustafi.

Despite their multiple absentees, Liverpool beat West Ham United on Sunday with Jordan Henderson and Nat Phillips their 12th centre-back partnership in 21 Premier League games. Youngster Sepp van den Berg has headed to Deepdale on loan as part of the package. Kabak joined Schalke in 2019 for 13m Pounds and is contracted to the Bundesliga club until 2024. The double signing is expected to be announced by the club later this evening. It's going to be a busy few hours but Liverpool will pray things go smoothly as the transfer window shuts at 5pm in Germany so time in running out to get these deals wrapped-up.
