Mitch McConnell says conspiracy theories are a 'cancer for the Republican Party'

Mitch McConnell says conspiracy theories are a 'cancer for the Republican Party'”

Although Democrats would like to strip Greene's committee assignments, they doubt House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) would take any action. One suggested shooting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the head. "They want her to be the definition of what a Republican is", Sterling told Politico. "They are coming after me because like President Trump, I will always defend conservative values", she said.

The parents of children killed in the Sandy Hook mass shooting have also said Greene should not have a role in shaping the country's education policy.

"How do you get avid gun owners and people that support the Second Amendment to give up their guns and go along with anti-gun legislation?"

"This is arguing with my Democrat colleagues, supposed colleagues", Greene said. "Is that what happened in Las Vegas?" Another video captured her confronting Parkland school shooting survivor David Hogg.

Greene has supported false online claims that school shootings were staged, including the 2012 killings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut and the 2018 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. "Now, we learn that Biggs actually encouraged the Republican Party's second biggest headache, QAnon's Marjorie Taylor Greene, to run for Congress past year".

McCarthy is supposed to meet privately with Greene this week.

A spokesperson for McConnell did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Former Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, was stripped of all his committee assignments after expressing support for white supremacists in 2019. The newly elected Georgia Republican, whose support of fringe conspiracies have placed her among the most controversial members of the new Congress, was played by Cecily Strong and saw her on a talk show that begged the question "What Still Works?" in government, with host Kate McKinnon.

Wasserman Schultz acknowledged Monday that it had always been left up to leaders to remove members of Congress of their own party of their committee assignments.

"We can't stop her from speaking", Wasserman Schultz told an online news conference with two other Democrats, Representatives Ted Deutch and Jahana Hayes.
