NBA, NBPA Discuss Holding All-Star Game In March”

The NBA cancelled its traditional All-Star Weekend, which had been scheduled for Indianapolis on Feb 14, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The event will instead be held in the city of the Pacers in 2024.

That doesn't mean the All-Star Game itself is off.

According to the person who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, several cities are being considered as potential hosts, including Atlanta, as no details have been publicly announced.

There have been discussions about using the Atlanta Hawks' State Farm Arena or an Atlanta-based HBCU campus gymnasium, sources said.

NBPA president Chris Paul of the Phoenix Suns has been a proponent of the idea, which would include the showcasing and benefiting of historically Black colleges and universities and COVID-19 relief funds, sources said.

Originally, the National Basketball Association didn't plan to host an All-Star Game this season due to concerns created by the Coronavirus. Already, the league has seen over 20 games postponed and a rash of positive tests, and has had to revise its health and safety protocols multiple times.

The NBA is still planning an "All-Star break" from March 5-10, and the second half of the regular season is set to begin March 11.

This would be the All-Star Game only - no Slam Dunk contest or celebrity game or any of the rest of it.

Just six out of the 30 teams have not had games pushed back because of Covid-19.
