Kushner, Berkowitz nominated for Nobel peace prize for Israel deals”

A leftwing Norwegian lawmaker on Monday nominated Stacey Abrams, progressive activist and failed Georgia Democrat gubernatorial candidate, for a Nobel Peace Price.

He was nominated - along with his former White House Deputy deputy, Avi Berkowitz - by Alan Dershowitz, who was eligible to do so in his capacity as a professor emeritus of Harvard Law School.

"We encourage efforts to promote interfaith and intercultural dialogue to advance a culture of peace among the three Abrahamic religions and all humanity", the State Department's website explains of the accords.

"The states are lining up, Arab and Middle-Eastern, to join that network of peace which will dominate the Middle-East", he continued.

"So let's hope the Nobel committee is fair".

According to Reuters, Mr Dershowitz wrote: "The Nobel Peace Prize is not for popularity".

Others receiving nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize this year include the Black Lives Matter movement, WikiLeaks, Daniel Ellsberg - who leaked the "Pentagon Papers" about the Vietnam War, Greta Thunberg, and Russian dissident Alexei Navalny, whose recent poisoning and return to Russia has triggered thousands to demonstration around Russia. All three of those nominations are backed by Norwegian lawmakers, who have a track record of picking the victor, according to The Guardian. "It is an award for fulfilling the daunting criteria set out by Alfred Nobel in his will".

He cited the duo's work in negotiating four normalization deals between Israel and Arab nations known as the "Abraham Accords".

Israel signed deals with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco. "In addition, several peace agreements have been made under his leadership in the Middle East, which has helped ensure stability in the region and peace".

In a statement, Kushner said he was honoured to be nominated for the prize, which will be awarded in October.

Trump heavily touted the diplomatic-normalization agreements at the time, saying they had brought about "the dawn of a new Middle East".

In 2020, Israel and the United Arab Emirates agreed to a historic deal normalizing relations.
