New Zealand reports three new COVID-19 local cases, first since January”

New Plymouth has also been identified as an area of interest because two of the cases travelled there from February 6th to 8th for a short holiday and visited a number of tourist attractions.

She said people can go home if they live in Auckland - a border will be put in place, but there is an exemption regime.

New Zealand on Sunday recorded three new cases of COVID-19 in the community, and they're all from the same family.

COVID-19 Minister Chris Hipkins said health officials were moving rapidly to trace, test and isolate close contacts of the three new cases.

Ms Ardern announced that the city's schools would remain open for the children of parents who need to work, but otherwise students will be asked to stay at home.

Airlines have also been contacted, as the woman in the infected family works for an airline catering company, LSG Sky Chefs, where she mostly works in the laundry facilities, they said.

The new active community cases are a mother, father and daughter from Papatoetoe. Officials said the woman hadn't been going aboard the planes herself.

The girl was last at school last Wednesday, February 10.A testing station will be set up at the school and it will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Bloomfield said.

"Then people are infectious a couple of days before that so it's possible that she was quite infectious a week ago but this will all start to come out with time".

New Zealand has been rocked by a fresh outbreak of Covid 19 infections. She will not be attending the Big Gay Out this afternoon.

"Our system has swung into action", Hipkins told a hastily called media conference. "But of course, we will and we have looked at what those exposure sites are in New Zealand and we will be looking at that for anyone coming across the border from New Zealand", he said.

"That is what we believe the cautious approach requires and its the right thing to do".

"We will collect more information before we would make any such decision", Hipkins said.

"There is a potential link to the border through the mother's workplace so that is another positive but. because it is not a direct [border] link, it's a little sort of more of a stretch I guess so there are other potential ways that the family could have got infected".

"With the working assumption, just in case, it could be one of the more transmissible strains of Covid that we need to act with a high degree of caution around", she said.

On Saturday, Director General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said a person who tested positive for the virus while in mandatory isolation died after being moved to North Shore Hospital in Auckland.
