Was On Phone For Two Straight Hours With Xi Jinping: Joe Biden”

President Joe Biden on day one in office reversed the Migrant Protection Protocols programme, enacted in 2019, that deterred would-be asylum seekers from coming to the US.

The Biden administration estimated that some 25,000 migrants enrolled in the MPP continue to have active cases.

Asylum seekers will be tested for COVID-19 before entering the United States, according to local media reports.

He said he "thoroughly supports" the Biden administration in its statement Saturday, which stated "deep concerns" over possible Chinese interference in the World Health Organization origins probe.

Instead of building walls, said Lopez Obrador, the United States should join his government's initiative of "cooperation for development", which seeks to curb migration by attacking the poverty that drives would-be migrants to seek a better life overseas. "I'm not going to do it the way (Donald) Trump did".

However, some detainees were promised their release from Guantanamo under his Democratic predecessor Obama, but he never succeeded in working out a compromise with Congress. Biden was Obama's vice president.

"We continue to convey that this is not the time to come [to the United States]".

"The recent measures are a new stage in our commitment to reform immigration policies that are inconsistent with our nation's values", he said in a statement.

An agreement with the Mexican government has allowed the USA border officials to send back more than 70,000 migrants to Mexico, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University's analysis.

Lopez Obrador also welcomed Biden's proposal to set up a visa system for Mexican and Central American migrants.

"Their presence as workers in the United States" is vital to the USA economy, Lopez Obrador said. The active cases will be allowed in the USA on February 19.

'I am very happy because in all this time we have been here waiting we have had many unpleasant experiences, ' she said.

For his part, Honduran Jose Madrid, 40, thanked the Biden administration.

'Life is very hard in Central America and we are grateful to the president for making that decision and helping Central America, ' said Madrid, who has been in Ciudad Juarez for almost two years.
