New York Legislature should probe nursing home deaths, Cuomo cover-up”

The so-called fact-check singles out former assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services Michael Caputo for faulting Cuomo for enacting policies that caused thousands of COVID-19 deaths in elderly assisted care and nursing home residents throughout the state.

DeRosa says they were anxious it would be used against them in a federal investigation. "While the introduction of COVID-19 positive patients into nursing homes no doubt had an effect on infection spread, Caputo's statement suggests it was exclusively responsible".

Andrew Cuomo spoke to press on Monday and blamed the "toxic political environment" for the nursing home deaths cover-up, saying that he wanted to get the "facts" straight regarding the nursing home scandal in his state.

On Monday, Cuomo did not refer to Trump by name when he was talking about the "toxic political environment", but it was clear that's who he was talking about.

The Trump administration's Department of Justice first demanded data from Cuomo's administration and states run by three other Democratic governors back in August 2020.

"Last week was an absolute bombshell", the New York Republican said on Fox News' "The Faulkner Focus".

Cuomo, in support of the idea that COVID-19 did not get into nursing homes becomes because of March 25 guidance, said that death rates remained the same after the directive. McCain tweeted in response to a New York Post report about Cuomo's negligence.

The governor said that of 613 NY nursing homes, 365 received a person from a hospital.

"Though some epidemiologists and nursing home advocates questioned the report's methods and findings, public health experts agreed with the report's conclusion - based on the timeline - that nursing home staffers and visitors, before they were banned, were likely the main drivers of COVID-19 infection and death in nursing homes", the PolitiFact article states.

Cuomo aide Melissa DeRosa said so on a call last week with Democratic state legislators.

"The void in information that we created started misinformation, disinformation, conspiracy theories, and now people have to hear that, and they don't know what is the truth", Cuomo said.

"These were the best professionals doing the best they could", Cuomo went on. "The void we created allowed disinformation and that created more anxieties for the families of loved ones". "In retrospect, we should have prioritized providing more information". "No excuses: I accept responsibility for that". And state assembly should issue subpoenas immediately, and I want the Department of Justice to launch an independent investigation.

"This is a pathetic response coming from a man who had the time to publish and promote a book about his pandemic response while New Yorkers clamored for the truth".
