Covid-19: By the numbers, February 16”

Still, this Tuesday's report is the lowest since September 15 in the number of newly diagnosed infections with the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

Dr. Bonnie Henry said Tuesday that while the overall number of cases has slowly been coming down across B.C., the seven-day rolling average is starting to creep up. As such, the reports can change and can differ from past case counts publicly reported.

The Eastern Cape has recorded 25 fatalities, the Free State 11, the Northern Cape 6 and Kwa-Zulu Natal 3 new related deaths. Stann Creek district reported two new cases with Dangriga and Independence responsible for one case each. The number of those in intensive care units (ICU) at hospitals rose by 13, to 74, after this metric had seen declines in the previous eight consecutive data updates. It is the longest state of emergency in B.C.'s history and is approaching one year since it was implemented.

There have been 51 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours. Within those facilities, 769 individuals were positive with the virus.

The health departments noted there were 186 active cases of the virus, down from 229 reported late last week.

Hancock County had an infection rate of 9.92 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 2.81.

Vaccinations have stalled due to supply constraints, but there were 8,773 new vaccinations conducted in the past four days. That includes 5,352 doses, which were the recipients' second doses.

In terms of the vaccine, as of February 13th, 268,551 doses have been administered in Ireland.

Henry said there's been a community outbreak declared, this time at Timothy Christian School in Chilliwack, and another has been reported at Simon Fraser University Childcare Society in Burnaby. That applies to Phase 2-eligible residents, including healthcare workers, first responders, long-term care residents and staff, congregate care residents and staff and people 75-years-old or older.
