New Zealand lashes at Australia in citizenship row over terror suspect

New Zealand lashes at Australia in citizenship row over terror suspect”

"Three New Zealand nationals trying to enter our country illegally from Syria were caught by our border guards in Hatay's Reyhanlı district", Turkey's Ministry of Defense tweeted, adding that among those caught was a woman named S.A. who is a wanted alleged IS terrorist. She was accompanied by two small children.

The 26-year-old woman was reportedly arrested with her two children this week by Turkish authorities near the Syrian border and identified as a member of Islamic State.

Ms Ardern said one in 12 young people in New Zealand were missing school because of period poverty, which is when those on low incomes can not afford or access suitable period products.

Australia defended the decision.

The 40-year-old leader said Australia had "abdicated its responsibilities" by unilaterally cancelling the citizenship, forcing New Zealand to shoulder the responsibility for the woman, who has not lived in New Zealand since she was 6.

Mr Morrison rebutted Ms Ardern yesterday, saying he was acting in Australia's national interest.

"That is where their family reside, that is where their links reside, and that is the place they departed for Syria".

Asked by The Country's Jamie Mackay about her comments, Ardern says that on the basis of the facts, she'd expect others would be annoyed as well.

"We believe Australia has abdicated its responsibilities in relation to this person and I have personally made that point to Prime Minister Morrison", Ardern said in an unusually blunt statement.

Ardern, who looked visibly angry during a press conference on Tuesday, said: "If the shoe were on the other foot, we would take responsibility. Australia did not act in good faith".

She said on Thursday that providing free period products was one way the government could address poverty, increase school attendance, and "make a positive impact on children's wellbeing". "(NB I think "wink" has only acquired a name, safety jacket, mask and ID since living at the airport. hopefully that won't stop it being recognised!)", the Prime Minister added.

Legislation in Australia automatically cancels a dual-citizen's citizenship when they engage in terrorism, he said.

The New Zealand Prime Minister was handed the lost bunny by airport staff when she was in Hamilton for a series of meetings in the hope her high profile might assist in reuniting the toy with its owner.

"I think everyone who has a little person in their lives will know how important these precious things can be, so maybe you can help us find whoever 'wink" belongs to?,' she said.
