3 dead, 2 injured after shooting inside Louisiana gun store, officials say”

Armed bystanders stopped the mass shooting that left three people dead, including the suspect, and two injured down the road from the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport Saturday afternoon, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Three people were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police in Louisiana have responded to a shooting with "multiple deaths" at a gun shop in Metarie, La., according to reports.

This argument reportedly led to shots being fired as well as the ensuing casualties. "The two transported victims are in stable condition", read the official statement.

ABC News got a busy signal on multiple calls to the Jefferson Gun Outlet.

The state's branch of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has issued a statement, saying that it has dispatched special agents to cooperate with the local Jefferson Parish Sheriff's office in the investigation. Customers who want to frequent the gun range generally go around to the side entrance of the building.

"We're trying to put it all together, piece it together with what we have in this development scene", the sheriff said. Staff who work there often wear a sidearm.

Authorities said they need time to determine what exactly happened during the multi-shooter incident.

None of the dead or wounded were immediately identified and details remained sketchy. A neighboring Taco Bell was evacuated.

Metairie is a major suburb of New Orleans, about five miles (eight kilometres) west of the city's iconic French Quarter, in the neighbouring jurisdiction of Jefferson Parish.
