Fully vaccinated people in USA allowed to gather without masks: CDC”

The CDC said there's still a lot we don't know about the vaccines: like how effective they are against new variants of the virus, whether vaccinated people can transmit the virus, and how long immunity lasts.

They are also greenlighting small gatherings between vaccinated people and those who are low-risk to serious illness from Covid-19. And if you show symptoms, the CDC says get tested, even if you're fully vaccinated. Therefore, fully vaccinated people can safely take fewer precautions in certain situations.

Dr. Ali Khan, dean of the University of Nebraska College of Public Health, said the guidance is reasonable in many respects - with the exception of travel. If you and a friend or you and a family member are both vaccinated, you can have dinner together wearing masks without distancing.

Those who are vaccinated are still required to follow other basic safety measures, like wearing masks and socially distancing in public as well as avoiding large crowds and travel. "As more people get vaccinated and the science and evidence expands, and as the disease dynamics of this country change, we will continue to update this guidance".

Officials say a person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the last dose of a vaccine.

Refrain from quarantine and testing following a known exposure if asymptomatic.

Wen has said the CDC should have had some kind of post-vaccination guidance ready in January, when some people first began to finish their second doses.

Many more Americans will need to be fully vaccinated before mitigation measures can be suspended, officials said, as the majority of Americans have yet to get the vaccine.

Per the CDC's COVID vaccine data, 12 percent of the United States population over the age of 18 have received the second dose of the two-shot COVID vaccine that is now being distributed.

It's more complicated when vaccinated people mingle with unvaccinated people.

But since January, a small but growing number of Americans have been fully vaccinated, and have been asking questions like: Do I still have to wear a mask?

Drug manufacturers are in the process of dramatically ramping up the production of all three vaccines, and the Biden administration recently announced an unusual partnership through which the drug giant Merck, which failed to develop a Covid-19 vaccine, will help to manufacture Johnson & Johnson's.

The CDC said fully vaccinated people should continue to follow many precautions such as avoiding big in-person gatherings, wearing masks when visiting with unvaccinated people from multiple households or wearing masks when with people at risk for severe COVID-19.

"We would like to give the opportunity for vaccinated grandparents to visit their children and grandchildren who are healthy and who are local, but our travel guidance now has been unchanged", she said. Medium and large-sized gatherings are still not recommended, nor is domestic or worldwide travel.
