Sarah Everard: Serving Metropolitan Police Officer Arrested”

Sarah Everard, a 33-year-old marketing executive, went missing after leaving a friend's home shortly after 9pm on 3 March.

The male officer was taken into custody and remains at a police station in London, where he is being questioned.

The officer, who was not on duty at the time of Sarah's disappearance, was arrested on Tuesday evening at an address in Kent, along with a woman who has been held on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The Metropolitan Police said a member of its force had been arrested at an address in Kent in connection with the investigation. "Sarah's family has been kept updated of these developments".

Officers continue to ask people who live in the Clapham Junction area, or who were there from 9.30pm on Wednesday 3 March, to check any CCTV or dashcams they may have and to come forward with any information.

Scotland Yard says the investigation is being led by its Specialist Crime Command because of the "complex nature" of the probe, which combines searches with house-to-house inquiries.

The search for missing Sarah Everard continues a week after her disappearance.

The development comes after officers searching for Ms Everard put up a cordon outside a block of flats near to where she was last seen on Poynders Road.

She was last seen wearing turquoise and orange trainers, navy blue pants with a white diamond pattern, a green jacket, green earphones and a white beanie hat.

Police sniffing dogs also searched the area, the broadcasting company reported.

She was last captured on a doorbell camera walking along the A205 Poynders Road towards Tulse Hill at around 9.30pm.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan told the PA news agency: "First and foremost I think all of our thoughts would be with Sarah's family, her parents and her siblings and her friends".

On Twitter, Lambeth Police force revealed they're "increasingly concerned" for the Sarah, after her disappearance.

Ms Everard's family have travelled from York to join the search.

Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin called the arrest "a significant development" in the investigation and said authorities were doing everything they could to find Everard.

Over 120 calls have so far been received from members of the public; information from which is now being assessed by officers as part of their extensive enquiries.

"We have seen an overwhelming response from the public not only in terms of information that has come into us; but also how social media is being used to share the appeals far and wide". She is also believed to have been wearing green earphones and a white beanie hat.
