United Kingdom says lumps in vaccine supply an issue

United Kingdom says lumps in vaccine supply an issue”

Johnson's comments came a day after the National Health Service told doctors that vaccine supplies would be "significantly constrained" beginning March 29.

"During April, around 12m people, including many colleagues in this House will receive their second dose". He didn't specify the manufacturer.

The vaccine shortage issue for AstraZeneca doses appears to be connected to a larger problem in the global supply chain, which is apparently impacting every batch of vaccines apart from Pfizer.

The announcement of a supply shortfall coincided with a resurgence in tensions with the European Union, which is frustrated by a lack of exports of AstraZeneca's vaccine from Britain.

"But the main thing is we're still very much on course, we've still got line of sight to deliver the vaccines and to meet our targets". COVID-19 is linked to more than 159,000 deaths in India, the world's fourth-highest death toll. Britain imports Pfizer's vaccine from Europe.

"There are very significant consequences to breaking contract law", Hancock said.

Britain has a legal right to AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine, which it helped to fund and develop, health minister Matt Hancock on Wednesday, in a sharp rebuke to criticism from the European Union that Britain has not been exporting the shots.

"Whatever you may hear about the pressures that different countries are under to deliver vaccines for their public, these vaccines are a multi-national effort and they are produced as the result of worldwide cooperation and we in the United Kingdom will continue to view it in that spirit".

Pfizer and AstraZeneca said on Wednesday their delivery schedules had not been affected. An AstraZeneca spokesman said on Wednesday that "UK domestic supply chain is not experiencing any disruption". This type of clot, which can occur naturally, has been reported in fewer than 1 in every million people vaccinated and no causal link to the vaccine has been established, the MHRA said.

England's Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty said anecdotal reports suggested that some people had not turned up to vaccination appointments after the shot was suspended in some European countries, but record numbers were still being vaccinated.

The government had previously said the Serum Institute of India, the world's biggest vaccine maker, would supply Britain with 10 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine this month.

"By pushing back the under-50s first doses, their second doses are also being pushed back", Clarke said.

Under Prime Minister Boris Johnson's roadmap for easing England's lockdown, more socialising will be allowed at the end of this month before non-essential shops, hairdressers and gyms reopen on 12 April. But the Serum Institute said Thursday that there were no "stipulated timelines" for delivery of the vaccine.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Thursday that people should be anxious about the European Union's threat to ban exports of COVID-19 vaccines to Britain to safeguard scarce doses for its own citizens.
