10 people killed at Colorado supermarket

10 people killed at Colorado supermarket”

Ten people are dead, including at least one police officer, after a shooter dressed in tactical gear methodically gunned down shoppers at a supermarket in the USA city of Boulder, Colorado while saying nothing, according to witnesses. A lone suspect was in custody, authorities said.

The Boulder Police Department wrote on Twitter: "ALERT: Active Shooter at the King Soopers on Table Mesa".

The footage later showed police officers armed with long guns being lifted via a firetruck apparatus onto the roof of the grocery store.

Mr Bentz said he jumped off a loading dock out back to escape and that younger people were helping older people down. Others took refuge in nearby shops.

One "person of interest" is injured and in custody, police commander Kerry Yamaguchi told reporters, following the incident at the King Soopers store in Boulder, some 30 miles (50 kilometers) northwest of the state capital Denver.

According to a live-streamed video, one person - a middle-aged white man, shirtless and wearing shorts - was seen being led away from the King Soopers store in handcuffs. Authorities would not say if he was the suspect. Witnesses say there were at least three people on the ground, not moving, and more than 10 injured.

"This is a tragedy and a nightmare for Boulder County", Dougherty said. People ran out of the back door! It is with deep sadness we mourn the victims and their families who have lost loved ones today, including the heroic Boulder police officer who died in the line of duty.

Among the dead included police officer Eric Talley. Some residents stood along the route, their arms raised in salute. "No numbers about fatalities will be released until families are notified", added Boulder police.

Steven McCue described to USA media the moment his two granddaughters hid in a coat closet for safety during the shooting at King Soopers supermarket in Boulder on Tuesday (NZ time). A 21-year-old man has been charged with those killings. He said he heard a series of pops.

He saw three people lying face down - one in a doorway and two in the parking lot.

Sarah Moonshadow, 42, a customer and Boulder resident who was in the store with her son, Nicholas, recounted scenes of pandemonium as gunfire rang out from inside the store. Outside, Edwards said, arriving police pulled up next to a body in the parking lot.

He said he called his mother to let her know he was all right, then "it all kind of sunk in and I started panicking", he said. "We had to go".

"I just almost got killed for getting a soda and a bag of chips", Ryan Borowski, who was in the store when he heard at least eight gunshots, told CNN.

"Investigation is underway. Crime scene analysts are inside the building processing evidence".

Matthew Kirsch, the acting U.S. attorney for Colorado, pledged that "the full weight of federal law enforcement" will support the investigation.

Multiple law enforcement agencies have reached out to the Boulder Police Department to express their condolences and show their support for the agency.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis also tweeted about the incident. "So I made a decision to wait till after the game to address it with them, and I did".
