Ontario reporting 1,699 new COVID-19 cases as seven-day average climbs”

To date, more than 1.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered across the province, including 129,000 doses administered to long-term care home residents.

The new cases today include 465 in Toronto, 329 in Peel Region, 161 in York Region and 99 in Durham Region.

Health Minister Christine Elliott said almost 31,100 tests were completed, and 1,553,040 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered. There were 1,699 new cases, down from the almost 1,800 on Sunday and the same for Saturday. We now have 868 COVID-19 patients in the hospital with 324 people in the ICU and 193 in the ICU on a ventilator. Ontario has not seen this many COVID-19 patients in the ICU since February 8, according to information released by the Ministry of Health.

This comes as the variants of concern (VOC) now make up 50 per cent of all new cases in Toronto, and the positivity rating in Ontario is at its highest level since February 1.

There were 50,659 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered in the last 24 hour period.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, all hospitals have felt financial challenges not only through direct costs, but also through the loss of other forms of revenue such as co-payments for private rooms and the reduction of retail services, all of which contribute to patient care and support clinical services.

The Ford government is spending another $1.2 billion to help public hospitals respond and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
