Man arrested for carrying 5 firearms into Atlanta Publix”

A sharp-eyed Instacart worker is getting credit for averting what could have been another bad crime in Atlanta, where a man brought body armor, ammunition and at least five guns into a grocery store, police said.

One witness named Charles Russell observed him and alerted the store manager, who subsequently then called police. Accordign to a Channel 2 journalist Matt Johnson who looked into Marley's background and shared that the man had a criminal record out of DeKalb County from three years ago for a simple assault charge that was dismissed on a technicality.

Georgia permits concealed carry, but guns are prohibited in Publix stores.

Police noted the individual was taken into custody after a mental evaluation by Grady EMS.

The incident caused the Publix to close, although the Journal-Constitution reported that nearby businesses remain open. "And I was like, you know, this kind of startled me just again with events that recently happened in the grocery store up in Colorado", he says. According to Russel, Marley was wearing a white tee and black trousers, but not the body armor.

It was not the first time Marley was arrested. "The weapon was leaned up in the stall of the bathroom, and it was not in a case".

'During the investigation, officers recovered 5 firearms and body armor from the male's possession, 2 long guns and 3 pistols, ' the statement from the department reads.

Police have yet to reveal if the suspect is a legal gun owner and licensed to carry. As officers responded to the call, Atlantic Drive was closed to traffic and shoppers turned away from the store.

While initial reports from police claimed the man was arrested with five weapons, an image obtained by WSB-TV reporter Matt Johnson shows ammunition, two rifles and four handguns, including a revolver.

"We are closely monitoring the situation alongside APD, and we will reopen as soon as possible", an Atlantic Station spokesperson tweeted on Wednesday evening.

Last week, a gunman killed eight people in shootings that targeted a massage parlor and two spas in and near Atlanta.
